How Does Industrial Knife Sharpening Work?
In industries working with machine blades, keeping your knives sharp is of vital importance. While this can be achieved by buying new blades, knife re-sharpening can be a better solution. Here at Precision Blade we have offered industrial knife re-sharpening services for over 30 years, providing a premium regrinding service for used machine knives that can make those blades work as good as new.
Any process of industrial blade sharpening will incorporate several stages and ours is no exception to that rule. But how does the knife re-sharpening process work, and what are the advantages offered by this process? Look below for everything that you need to know…

Cleaning
The knife re-sharpening process starts as soon as our clients send their blades to us. Once we receive the blades in question, we then clean the knives using our tried and tested scouring techniques. This helps to remove any debris from the blades and prepares them to be re-sharpened.
Damage check
Once any debris has been removed, we then look further for cracks and superficial damage. As blade grinding can be quite a physical procedure any cracks are carefully handled. This is to make sure that the knife is not damaged by the re-sharpening process.
Surface grinding
After scanning the blade to check all its relative dimensions, we then re-sharpen the blade to fit our client’s specifications, using a grinder to de-burr and hone it and returning it to close to brand new condition. Finally, the blade is checked one more time to ensure that there are no defects before it is packaged and sent back to the client.
But, why do it?
The knife re-sharpening process comes with many advantages. Firstly, it is a versatile process that can be applied to a range of different knives. Knives that the process can be applied to include tooth-form knives, circular knives, flat knives and scissor wrapping knives. With the process applicable to so many types of blade, there’s therefore no need to seek re-sharpening from another company.
Choosing to re-sharpen your machine knives also helps to save money. The cost of having your knives re-sharpened is by far preferable to the price of purchasing new specialist knives. If you know that a knife works for your machine, re-sharpening enables you to stick with what you know works.
